Forest Hills Station House

Forest Hills Station House

Forest Hills, Queens, New York

It's been a minute.

Part of it is that we have not been anyplace new. Part of it is that I have been injured. And the third part is that life has been weird.

But L and I haven't been on the same page when it comes to eating out. Before a concert last week, we had a remarkably mediocre "modern Chinese" meal. I mean, the food was fine but we paid more than we should have. And that is one of the things too. Everything has gotten expensive enough that trying new places becomes a riskier proposition. Mediocre and expensive will irritate me.

Getting around to it, we have been eating out less and if we are, we are choosing places that we already familiar with.

But we were in Queens to see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Forest Hills Stadium. If you will allow me a moment, the show was fabulous. The Linda Lindas opened, and they are ADORABLE. Japanese Breakfast, a band that I don't love, played a great set, and the YYYs were amazing. It was such a great show and I was filled with so much glee.

And we needed a meal before the show.

My planning was not the best so I was scrambling and a combination of Google and Untappd gave me the Station House.

First of all, it was PACKED. Mostly with people around my age. The staff was efficient and was moving food and drinks quickly. It was nice to see.

L enjoyed her cocktails. I enjoyed the beer and shot special because pregaming, y'all. As for food, L got the chicken sandwich and churros for dessert (not pictured) and I got the Ghost Pepper sliders and truffle fries. A note, which is not a complaint but if you are advertising something as a ghost pepper dish, it should be a ghost pepper dish, or at a comparable level of spiciness. These were very good. I just wanted them a lot spicier than they were. Truffle fries are one of those things that always make me happy.

Add a little bit of umami to a great snack? I AM THERE.

So I am not going to use the normal rating metrics because it was a concert crowd but I am willing to go back because it deserves it.

Check it out. Have a shot and a beer.
